Introducing the new real-time BLT Triangle Tag

A game-changer for car dealers, delivering significant cost and productivity improvements.


Barcodes, QR codes and RFID solutions in the automotive sector are outdated. These solutions still involve a great deal of manual work on a daily basis, where many things can go wrong, leading to a rapid domino effect. With the Real-time BLT Triangle Tag, everything is fully automated and vehicle location is accurate.


In addition to our BLT Bluetooth labels, we have recently introduced BLT Bluetooth Triangle Tags. This new Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tag offers more advantages for some car dealers than the current Bluetooth labels.


For instance, the advantage of our current Bluetooth labels is that they are single-use; the label comes out of the thermal printer and is attached to the car. Once the car is sold, the Bluetooth label is removed before it leaves the premises. However, most car dealers aim for an average turnaround time of 30 days. As a result, the single-use nature of a Bluetooth label can be too costly for some car dealers. The Triangle Tag can resolve this latter issue, amongst other things.


The most striking feature is that, in addition to locating a car, the Triangle Tag is also ideal for car keys. The accuracy of locating a car (and/or car key) has improved compared to the BLT Bluetooth labels. The need to track car keys is important for some car dealers.

With BLT’s Triangle Tag, staff (including sales staff and mechanics) can locate a car or car key even more accurately. The location is constantly updated in the BLT dashboard if a car has been moved. A staff member can see in the BLT dashboard, using the VIN number, which zone a car is in. These zones are created by gateways. Once an employee has entered the zone, it can sometimes still be difficult to find the car (or car key). At that point, the employee can open the BLT smartphone app. This app can guide you to the exact location of the car (or car key) with metre-level accuracy.


Furthermore, the Bluetooth Triangle Tag is equipped with an LED light. In practice, this new feature saves the employee even more time when searching for a car (or car key). Once the employee has been guided to the correct vehicle using the BLT smartphone app, the LED light in the Triangle Tag will start flashing. This means an employee does not need to double-check and compare the VIN number, as the LED light is now flashing on the exact right car.


There are also other benefits to the built-in LED light in the Triangle Tag:


  • Time savings in poor lighting conditions (morning, evening and night shifts)
  • No double-checking, meaning an employee can immediately see the correct car, for example in poor weather conditions
  • Time savings by making the correct car key immediately locatable in the safe


For car dealers who move thousands of cars around the site each year, this represents a significant improvement in productivity.


Why is the Bluetooth Triangle Tag attractive in terms of price?


At the start of this blog, we mentioned that the current Bluetooth label is single-use and that this can be too expensive for some car dealers with high turnover. The Bluetooth Triangle Tag has a battery life of two years and features a unique engraved QR code. If the car needs to leave the premises, the Triangle Tag can easily be removed from the car (and car key). An employee with the correct permission can scan this QR code and remove the VIN number. The car (and car key) will then disappear from the BLT system. The Triangle Tag can then be reused for another car. An employee with the correct permissions can scan the Triangle Tag and easily link it to a new VIN number. This is then immediately visible in the BLT system. With a battery life of two years and a target turnaround time of 30 days, reusing a Triangle Tag is very cost-effective.

After two years, we take back the BLT Triangle Tags and recycle the battery at the factory. This aspect of sustainability and reuse is very important to us.
